Armour of Agathys

Armour of Agathys is a level 1 abjuration spell. It allows spellcasters to create a spectral armour of frost that covers the caster and their equipment. This armour provides additional Hit Points to the caster and damages hostile targets while the added hit points are present.

Description

Gain  5 temporary hit points and deal 5⁠⁠Cold damage to any creature that hits you with a melee attack.

Can only have Temporary Hit Points from one source.

Gained  5 × spell level temporary hit points. If hit with a melee attack, the attacker takes 5 × spell level⁠⁠Cold damage. This effect ends when the temporary hit points are lost.

Classes:

• Class level 1: Warlock and Draconic Bloodline (White/Cold Ancestry)
• Class level 6: College of Lore (via Magical Secrets)
• Class level 10: Bard (via Magical Secrets)

Granted by features:

•  Magic Initiate: Warlock

Granted by items:

• Icebite Robe ( Recharge: Long rest)

Other ways to learn:

• There are no scrolls available for wizards to transcribe to their spellbooks.  Scroll of Armour of Agathys has been entirely removed from the game.

Notes

• The  temporary hit points from  Symbiotic Entity can be used to increase the temporary hit points from  Armour of Agathys if the former are higher than the latter. Otherwise, most sources of temporary hit points treat this spell like any other source of temporary hit points:
  • If they are lower than the maximum hit points granted by Armor of Agathys, they do nothing.
  • If they are higher than the maximum hit points granted by Armor of Agathys, they replace the temporary hit points and end Armor of Agathys.
• The incantation for Armour of Agathys is Mactē Virtutē, the Latin command "honour with virtue!"
• If cast via  Icebite Robe, the spell ends if Icebite Robe is unequipped.

Bugs

• When upcast to either spell slot level 3 or 4, the tooltip description incorrectly references the condition applied via the spell slot level 1 version.
