Chromatic Orb

Chromatic Orb is a level 1 evocation spell. It allows spellcasters to fire a ball of energy and deal the chosen damage type to enemies.

Description

Hurl a sphere of energy.

It deals 3d8⁠⁠Thunder damage, or 2d8 ⁠Acid, ⁠Cold, ⁠Fire, ⁠Lightning or ⁠Poison damage and creates a surface.

At higher levels

• Upcasting: Casting this spell at a higher level deals an extra 1d8 damage of the chosen type for each spell slot level above 1st.

Classes:

• Class level 1: Sorcerer and Wizard
• Class level 3: Arcane Trickster and Eldritch Knight
• Class level 6: College of Lore (via Magical Secrets)
• Class level 10: Bard (via Magical Secrets)

Granted by features:

•  Magic Initiate: Sorcerer
•  Magic Initiate: Wizard

Other ways to learn:

• Also granted to Warlocks who choose the Eldritch Invocation  Book of Ancient Secrets at level 7+. When gained in this way, the spell can be cast once per Long Rest and does not expend Spell Slots.
• Wizards can transcribe a  Scroll of Chromatic Orb to their spellbooks.
