Expert Divination is a Divination School Wizard passive feature which grants an additional Portent Die and allows its user to fulfill prophecies to restore any spent Portent Dice each short rest. These prophecies typically entail casting a spell from a specific school or dealing a specific type of damage.
Description
You gain an additional Portent Die. When taking a Short Rest you receive a set of Prophecies. Complete them to regain missing Portent Dice.
How to learn
Classes:
- Class level 6: Divination School
Notes
- This feature increases a wizard's maximum number of Portent Dice to 3.[See: Bugs]
- After short resting, the user receives a random prophecy for each spent Portent Die. Fulfilling this prophecy restores a die with a new, random value.[See: Bugs]
- Altogether, Expert Divination increases the number of Portent Dice a wizard can use from 2 per long rest up to 3 per short rest.
- The different possible prophecies are:
- Deal a specific damage type:
- Prophecy: Burn After Reading
- Prophecy: Frosty Reception
- Prophecy: Shocking Revelation
- Prophecy: Thunderous Applause
- Prophecy: Forceful Insistence
- Prophecy: Grave Fate
- Prophecy: Venomous Words
- Prophecy: Headache
- Prophecy: Holy Epiphany
- Prophecy: Melting Pot
- Prophecy: A Blunt Tool
- Prophecy: A Little Prick
- Prophecy: Cutting Edge
- Cast a spell from a specific school:
- Prophecy: Well-Read: Learn or cast a spell using a scroll.
- Prophecy: Delivering Alms: Help an ally.[See: Bugs]
- Prophecy: Reap Rewards: Kill an enemy.
- Deal a specific damage type:
Bugs
- Prophecy: Delivering Alms can never be completed because it references a passive which does not exist in the game code.
- Divination Wizards can only have one die per value, yet the game only ensures unique values for Portent Dice granted after long rests. This means a fulfilled Prophecy might result in no extra die if a wizard already has a die with the same value. For example, a wizard with 2 remaining Portent Dice has a 10% chance of not getting a new die, while a wizard with a single remaining die has a 5% chance.
- Casting area of effect spells while not in turn-based mode can make prophecies activated by dealing a certain damage type trigger multiple times, resulting in multiple new Portent Dice, often overcoming the limit of 3. For example, casting a Fireball with Lightning Charges against a group of five enemies while outside of combat and having both Prophecy: Burn After Reading and Prophecy: Shocking Revelation results in up to 10 new Portent Dice for a Divination Wizard, as both prophecies are triggered once per enemy.
