Silver Sword of the Astral Plane

Not to be confused with Voss' Silver Sword

The Silver Sword of the Astral Plane is a legendary +3 Greatsword which grants its wielder the  Soulbreaker weapon action and provides special bonuses when wielded by a githyanki.

The fervour with which the githyanki express devotion to their queen is admirable to some, disquieting to others. When confronted with the fallibility of the divine (since no one is wholly perfect), who knows what reactions such folk might evince.

The holder of this item gains:

Githborn Psionic Resistance

A githyanki holding this weapon has  Advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma  Saving Throws, resistance to Psychic damage, and cannot be  Charmed.

Githborn Psionic Weapon

When wielded by a githyanki this weapon deals an additional 1d6⁠⁠Psychic damage.

Weapon actions

If you have proficiency, equip in main hand to gain:

 Cleave ()

Swing your weapon in a large arc to attack up to 3 enemies at once. They each take half the damage your weapon usually deals. ( Recharge: Short rest.)

 Lacerate ()

Slash at your target's vital points to make it  Bleed. ( Recharge: Short rest.)

 Pommel Strike ()

Make a non-lethal attack against an enemy and possibly  Daze them. ( Recharge: Short rest.)

Special weapon actions

This weapon also grants the following:

 Soulbreaker ()

Rend the enemy's body and soul, dealing additional ⁠Psychic damage equal to your proficiency bonus, and possibly  Stun them. ( Recharge: Short rest.)

Where to find

• Lower City Sewers X: -70 Y: 828: Rewarded for showing the  Orphic Hammer to (or killing)  Kith'rak Voss after agreeing to meet him in the sewers within the Undercity in Act Three

Notes

• This sword may also be obtained in Act One, by disarming Voss via  Command (Drop),  Heat Metal,  Fear,  Disarming Attack (Ranged),  Honeyed Paws, or  Dirty Trick: Flick o' the Wrist before entering the Mountain Pass X: -139 Y: 561.
  • Voss must be disarmed before beginning the encounter, as he immediately flies away when any hostile action is taken by the party or its allies, and he locks party members into dialogue when they approach close enough.
  • Due to his high stats, the chance of failing the disarm attempt against him is very high, so this method may require multiple reloads or extensive preparation. See: Guide: Early Silver Sword.
  • Using  Honeyed Paws while having a divination wizard with a 15 or higher  portent die nearby guarantees that he drops his weapon. It is possible to long rest until getting 15 or higher and then make the bear invisible. After placing a  Potion of Invisibility on the ground, the bear companion can drink it and then approach Voss.
  • Sometimes, Voss appears with a  Githyanki Crossbow instead of the sword or, when dropped, it simply phases out of existence. The triggers for these anomalies are not known. If Voss appears with a crossbow instead of the sword, this Guide explains how to obtain it.
• If this sword is obtained in Act One, a second one of this will not be given as a quest reward.
  • Otherwise, this sword can be acquired in Act Three before entering the Lower City during Deal with the Devil. If the party declines or skips signing the contract with  Raphael but successfully lies to Voss, he gives the party the sword ( DC 30 Deception Check).

Notes included from Githborn Psionic Resistance:

• In addition to Charmed, Githborn Psionic Resistance blocks all (eighteen) conditions in the  Charmed status group.

Bugs

Regarding Soulbreaker:

• The additional ⁠Psychic damage is treated as a separate damage rider source even in Honour Mode.
