A Trapped Beacon is a unique type of Trap in Grymforge in Act One of the game.

Involvement[edit section | visual editor]

A Trapped Beacon is a defensive mechanism of Sharran design, resembling a giant vertical ring chiselled of stone, with a brazier inside. There are five beacons standing in plain sight on each side of the narrow gallery in Grymforge. They can be reached only after successfully resolving the Get Past the RubbleGet Past the Rubble: four in pairs across one another, the "pair" for the last one is destroyed.

The whole gallery is thickly laden with trapped Marble Plates, both rectangular and round (these are planted between the Beacons), all working as a joint system. Triggering any of plates turns the whole gallery into a veritable obstacle course, as the Trapped Beacons work in tandem with Gargoyle Statues at the both ends of the gallery.

Triggering any trap in this area automatically initiates Turn-based mode. Every two turns, paired Trapped Beacons fire simultaneous jets of flame across the gallery, dealing 2d6FireFire damage to anything in their path. Because they pause between attacks, the party can safely cross their firing line on the off-turns. In contrast, the Gargoyle Statues activate every turn, extending their flames up to 15 meters and potentially knocking targets Prone Prone in addition to dealing damage.

Each Trapped Beacon must be detected and disarmed individually, but failing a disarm attempt on any one of them sets off the whole system.

Despite this, getting to end of the gallery is worthwhile, as it allows the party to obtain two notable items:

Trapped Beacons can be disarmed with the help of Sleight of Hand Sleight of Hand skill, provided the character has a  Trap Disarm Toolkit in their inventory. The Difficulty Class is a DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check roll.

Once successfully disarmed, Trapped Beacon rings crumble into rubble.
