Sorrowful Lash

Sorrowful Lash is a cantrip (Transmutation). It deals damage to a target and pulls it closer to the caster. It is essentially equivalent to the  Thorn Whip cantrip, except it uses a  Bonus Action, and base damage does not scale with level.

Description

Pulls the creature 3 m (10 ft) closer to you.

The target cannot be pulled if it is Huge in size.

Notes

• Sorrowful Lash is a cantrip, rather than a weapon action, so its attack roll and damage rely on a character's item spellcasting ability, rather than Strength. This also means that it is usable by a character without proficiency with glaives.
• This is the only cantrip in the game whose damage includes the caster's spellcasting ability modifier. Usually, this is only possible through additional passives such as  Agonising Blast or  Gregarious Caster.
• Despite having a range of 9 m (30 ft), this cantrip actually uses a melee spell attack roll. This means the caster does not suffer  Disadvantage when attacking at close range or  Threatened. It can also trigger features that activate on melee attacks, both from the caster (e.g.,  Touch of Death) and the enemy (e.g.,  Shield Blow).
• The incantation for Sorrowful Lash is the same as for  Thorn Whip: Fragilo, Latin for "brittle" or "frail".
