List of bugged conditions

From bg3.wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This list aims to catalogue conditions which do not function as would be expected based on their tooltips, or which have other problems - or missing information - in their description, function, or location. This list is unlikely to be comprehensive as it is likely there are many issues with conditions of which we are unaware.

As this list deals with problems that have a high likelihood of being changed in patches and hotfixes, it is likely that entries will be incorrect following an update.

All entries are currently correct as of Hotfix 33.

Conditions[edit section | visual editor]

Name Bugs

Abjure Enemy: Slow Abjure Enemy: Slow

  • Movement speed is not halved. Instead, movement cost is multiplied by 1.5.
  • This condition is removed when any action that does not result in a miss is made against the character, rather than when the character receives damage.

Adrip with Kereska's Acid Adrip with Kereska's Acid

  • Additional damage is added solely based on the DamageType flag of the action used. It does not actually check that the action was a spell.

Animalistic Vitality Animalistic Vitality

  • The in-game description of this ability is inaccurate. The amount healed is actually 1d8Hit PointsHit Points per round.
    • The healing applies outside of combat as well, even outside of turn-based mode. In real time, the healing will be applied every 6 seconds.

Arcane Charge Arcane Charge

  • The in-game tooltip is incorrect based on the way the effect is coded, and reads as follows: "While Threatened, affected entity has a +2 bonus to damage with spells." However, having the Arcane Charge condition causes a creature to deal bonus spell damage against any Threatened Threatened creature; the one with the condition does not necessarily need to be Threatened.

Arcanely Honed Arcanely Honed

  • Tooltip doesn't specify damage type

Astral Lethargy Astral Lethargy

  • Description is inaccurate, this condition only reduces movement speed by 2m.

Baneful Strike Baneful Strike

  • Baneful Strike applies a 1d4 penalty to all Saving Throws for its duration, not just the attacker's next spell.

Befuddled Befuddled

  • This condition uses Pacified Pacified (PACIFYING_SPORES) instead of Befuddled Befuddled (TIMMASK_SPORES) as a parent. As a result, affected characters are stunned rather than behaving as if they were confused.

Beguiled Beguiled

  • This variant of Charmed lacks the proper Charmed status group, and as such will not be removed or prevented by typical means.

Bhaal's Boon Bhaal's Boon

  • Stacks of this condition are removed in far more circumstances than they should be which makes it nearly impossible to accumulate stacks.
    • Whenever a condition of any type is removed from the Slayer, the number of stacks will decrement. Many features involve hidden technical conditions that are applied and removed frequently. In particular, every attack made with Extra Attack Extra Attack involves applying and removing hidden technical conditions which track the extra attacks. As a result, simply attacking causes the stacks to decrement, often immediately after acquiring the first stack.

Black Hole Black Hole

  • Despite what the tooltip says, the nearby area is unaffected by this condition, and no difficult terrain is created. Only creatures hit directly by Nebulous Black Hole Nebulous Black Hole are Slowed by this condition.
  • Slow: Casting Slow: Casting is non-functional and spells cast by slowed creatures will never be delayed.
  • Slow: Actions Slow: Actions does not prevent a creature from making multiple attacks unless they somehow become Slowed between attacks on their own turn.

Blade Ward Blade Ward

  • Resistance and vulnerability normally cancel each other out, but a character under Blade Ward is resistant to physical damage even if they would otherwise be vulnerable to it.
    • For example, a character with Stricken With Flesh Rot Stricken With Flesh Rot is vulnerable to all damage, but becomes resistant to physical damage instead while under Blade Ward, rather than the two effects cancelling out (for physical damage).
    • Similarly, a skeleton, which is normally vulnerable to BludgeoningBludgeoning damage, becomes resistant to it instead while under Blade Ward, rather than the two effects cancelling out. Examining a skeleton like this, the UI states only the expected resistance SlashingSlashing and PiercingPiercing.

Bladesong Healing Charge Bladesong Healing Charge

Booming Blade Booming Blade

  • ThunderThunder damage increases with the damage bonuses of the affected creature rather than the damage bonuses of the character who initially applied Booming Blade.

Bottled Breath Bottled Breath

  • Despite what the tooltip states, drinking this potion actually allows you cast Gust of Wind Gust of Wind an unlimited number of times per Long Rest.

Bound Weapon Bound Weapon

  • This condition lacks the Attributed(InventoryBound) code that is otherwise found on Bind Pact Weapon Bind Pact Weapon and Bind Hexed Weapon Bind Hexed Weapon. Although this was (apparently) done to allow a bound weapon to be Thrown Thrown, it also has the side effect of allowing an Eldritch Knight to give their bound weapon to any other character to use to the same effect. Thus, others can equip a bound weapon and use it as if they had bound it themselves, even if they are not an Eldritch Knight. For example, one can use an Eldritch Knight Hireling to cast Weapon Bond Weapon Bond on a weapon, give it to another character, and then remove the hireling from the active party and / or dismiss them. In this way a bound weapon can be used by any party member – until the next long rest.

Call of the Dark Lady Call of the Dark Lady

  • The description regarding the Justiciar is incorrect. Targets affected by Call of the Dark Lady take an additional 4NecroticNecrotic damage when hit by Justiciar Crusaders in Umbral Form.
  • Only 1d4NecroticNecrotic is dealt to the affected creature each turn, and not 1d4NecroticNecrotic + 1d6NecroticNecrotic as stated in the damage tooltip.

Celestial Haste Celestial Haste

  • The in-game description says it doubles the movement speed, but it actually increases it by 9 m (30 ft).

Charmed Charmed

  • The description is completely erroneous. Affected creatures do not become friendly to the charmer or their allies; only damage received from the charmer or its allies breaks the condition. The effects of this condition mirror Charmed Charmed, which is used as a parent.

Click Heels Click Heels

  • This condition actually applies the Disadvantage Disadvantage to the affected creature's  Reaction attacks, rather than reaction attacks targeting them.

Coated in Oil of Freezing Coated in Oil of Freezing

  • Encrusted with Frost applies multiple times per attack with spells that are considered weapon attacks and include multiple DealDamage functions, such as Booming Blade Booming Blade and the various Smite spells.

Compelled to Duel Compelled to Duel

  • This condition uses Compelled Duel Compelled Duel as a parent but does not change the check which imposes Disadvantage on the attacker against anyone but the caster. As a result, the attacker will have Disadvantage against every target, even the caster of this effect.

Conduit of Kereska's Ice Conduit of Kereska's Ice

  • Additional damage is added solely based on the DamageType flag of the action used. It does not actually check that the action was a spell.

Crackling with Kereska's Lightning Crackling with Kereska's Lightning

  • Additional damage is added solely based on the DamageType flag of the action used. It does not actually check that the action was a spell.

Crystal Skin Crystal Skin

  • This condition only gives resistance to FireFire, ColdCold, and LightningLightning rather than all elemental damage types.

Curative Antidote Curative Antidote

  • The condition is removed from the imbiber instantly, and does not provide advantage on saving throws against being poisoned.

Cursed: Dread Cursed: Dread

  • Due to a coding error, a creature failing the save does not skip its turn if it skipped its previous turn.

Dirty Advantage Dirty Advantage

  • This condition is removed when any action that does not result in a miss is made, instead of just attacks.

Disguise Self Disguise Self

  • Disguise Self disables effects which require the Brand of the Absolute to trigger, such as  Gloves of Power.
  • As of Patch 5, Hotfix 17, it is possible to give the caster racial equipment bonuses for longer than intended by using the  Mask of the Shapeshifter, taking the mask off, and long resting without removing the disguise. On waking up, the disguise is gone, but the racial bonuses on the equipment still affect the character. This only works for racial equipment bonuses, not racial dialogue options.
  • If the player character is disguised as a githyanki when talking to Shadowheart Shadowheart for the first time on the beach at the start of Act One they are awarded an extra 30 xp.
  • If a companion is disguised while at camp, they will remain where they were last placed when another companion or player character is selected, rather than automatically moving back to their tent, until they are moved again or a long rest is taken. This can be useful when seeking to apply conditions or spells with a limited radius, such as Aid Aid.
  • While disguised, hirelings cannot be spoken with.

Dryad's Blessing Dryad's Blessing

  • Due to a scripting error, this condition is never granted.

Elixir of Guileful Movement Elixir of Guileful Movement

Encrusted with Frost Encrusted with Frost

  • The in-game description is not entirely correct: failing the DC 12 Constitution Saving Throw DC 12 Constitution Saving Throw results in the entity becoming Frozen Frozen, whereas succeeding it causes it to take 1d4ColdCold damage. Contrary to what the description states, this damage is not halved.

Enemy of Justice Enemy of Justice

  • May permanently persist on a character in an Act where it was triggered despite no remaining "witness" guards.

Exposing Bite Exposing Bite

  • This condition is removed after any attack roll against the affected creature within 3 m (10 ft), but the critical hit only applies if it is made within 2 m (7 ft). This means the effect will be wasted when attacking an affected creature with an extra reach weapon from maximum range.

Faltering Will Faltering Will

  • The tooltip description in-game erroneously states disadvantage on Saving Throws, rather than Ability Checks.

Force Conduit Force Conduit

Gaping Wounds Gaping Wounds

  • The 2PiercingPiercing damage does not trigger effects requiring piercing damage, such as Prophecy: A Little Prick Prophecy: A Little Prick, because the piercing damage dealt to the enemy is from a passive effect placed on the enemy, rather than originating from the attacker which is necessary to trigger such effects.
  • Honour Mode changes the effect of this condition to a simple +2 to damage rolls, to ensure that it doesn't trigger damage riders. This causes it to adopt the original damage type of the attack, instead of always inflicting +2 piercing damage.
    • This additional damage also lacks a check for attack rolls, and thus adds damage to any source of damage.

Gloomweave Gloomweave

Goaded Goaded

  • Despite being stated that the goaded enemy will attack the caster, the enemy's AI does not change at all and may not prioritize attacking the goading creature if they leave the attacking range.
  • The tooltip for this condition states it has a Wisdom save, but no such on-turn saving throw exists.
  • A character under the effects of this condition has Disadvantage on all attack rolls, even against the source of the condition.

Gossamer Tomb Gossamer Tomb

  • Due to a typo, this condition actually deals 10d8PoisonPoison instead of 8d10PoisonPoison.

Grappled Grappled

This condition cannot actually be removed by the help action, as it is not targeted by Target_Help https://bg3.norbyte.dev/search?q=name:Target_Help+type:Spell.[verify]

Grasp Essence Grasp Essence

  • Due to a coding error, Grasp Essence will be removed from the wielder if it takes damage and does not have any temporary HP.

Gripped by Kereska's Flame Gripped by Kereska's Flame

  • Additional damage is added solely based on the DamageType flag of the action used. It does not actually check that the action was a spell.

Haste Spores Haste Spores

  • The in-game description says it doubles movement speed, but it actually increases it by 9 m (30 ft).

Hastened Hastened

  • The in-game description says it doubles movement speed, but it actually increases it by 9 m (30 ft).

Heat Heat

Hexblade's Curse Hexblade's Curse

  • Hexblade's Curse includes a BoostContext check of OnAttack. Though this lacks an associated BoostConditions check, it causes a situation where the effect of this condition is inactive until the Warlock makes an initial attack. This is most noticeable after reloading a save file in which the Warlock already has Hexblade's Curse applied to an enemy.

Hoots' Hooch: Bad Breath Hoots' Hooch: Bad Breath

  • Hoots' Hooch: Bad Breath is bugged. Enemies do not get the Nauseous effect. Instead, when a character with Hoots' Hooch: Bad Breath is hit with a melee attack, that character makes a CON save against "%%% Empty".

Horrific Visage Horrific Visage

Improved Bardic Inspiration Improved Bardic Inspiration

  • This condition correctly applies the IMPROVED_BARDIC_INSPIRATION status effect (+1d12). However, due to a coding error, this status condition also mistakenly assigns the base BardicInspiration resource tag (which defaults to a d6). The +1d12 bonus itself is passive and automatic, applying to the recipient's next Attack Roll, Ability Check, or Saving Throw; the only manual button involved is the unintended d6 reaction. How this bug manifests depends on whether the character has Bard levels:
    • Because Bards naturally have Bardic Inspiration Bardic Inspiration as a class feature, their action bar is already designed to manage Bardic Inspiration charges, and the (bugged) extra d6 charge simply acts like a normal one: if they spend it, it depletes as expected, but it does not break on their action bar because Bards have the native ability to replenish their Bardic Inspiration pool on a Partial or Long Rest.
    • Non-bards do not have Bardic Inspiration Bardic Inspiration as a class feature or resource pool. Therefore, this bug creates a temporary resource slot on their action bar to hold the single d6. Once they spend it, the game engine leaves this temporary slot on their action bar at 0/1 charges. Because non-bards have no class mechanic to refill Bardic Inspirations, the d6 slot sits as an unfillable "dead" icon until the intended +1d12 condition is consumed by an Attack Roll, Ability Check, Saving Throw, or a Long Rest.

Infernal Fury Infernal Fury

  • Karlach deals two extra instances of 1d4FireFire damage (for a total of 2d4) when making an Unarmed Strike Unarmed Strike with the Infernal Fury buff active. She deals this extra damage regardless of her class, raging status, and current hit points.
  • Karlach deals an extra instance of 1d4FireFire damage when making a weapon attack when she is raging OR when she is below 25% of her Hit Points.
    • This stacks with itself, meaning she will deal two extra instances of 1d4FireFire damage (for a total of 2d4) when making a weapon attack while Raging Raging and below 25% Hit Points.

Infernal Stun Infernal Stun

  • The tooltip states it requires a Dexterity saving throw, but it actually requires a Wisdom saving throw.

Instinctive Charm: Unaffected Instinctive Charm: Unaffected

  • Due to a missing StatusPropertyFlag, this condition is not removed on Long Rest and remains indefinitely.

Invulnerable Invulnerable

  • The tooltip does not mention that this condition grants advantage on all saving throws.

Legendary Resistance Legendary Resistance

  • Since Legendary Resistance uses the IsFlatValueInterruptInteresting() function as a condition, it does not trigger when a saving throw rolls a 1 or a 20, even if the saving throw was failed by less than 10, due to a flaw in that function's code.

Lightning Blast Lightning Blast

Lightning Charges Lightning Charges

Love Protects Love Protects

  • Due to a scripting error, this condition is never granted.

Lover's Avarice Lover's Avarice

  • In contrast to Broken Promises Broken Promises, the Wisdom reduction curse is not actually indefinitely, it ends after a long rest.

Lycanthropic Fury Lycanthropic Fury

  • Werewolves Werewolves are supposed to receive this condition when they are damaged and reduced below 30% hit points, but due to a context error, it instead requires the attacker to be below 30% hit points.
  • The tooltip references barbarians and ending Rage Rage early, none of which apply to this condition.

Magic Awareness Magic Awareness

  • The in-game description is inaccurate. It says, "The barbarian and all creatures within 3 m (10 ft) add their proficiency bonus to saving throws against spells." In reality, the bonus is 1d4 and it applies to all saving throws, not just against spells.

Magic Awareness Aura Magic Awareness Aura

  • The in-game description is inaccurate. It says, "Adds their proficiency bonus to saving throws against spells." In reality, the bonus is 1d4 and it applies to all saving throws, not just against spells.

Maimed Maimed

Mental Fatigue Mental Fatigue

  • Despite the tooltip, Mental Fatigue can be stacked up to any arbitrary number on screen. The actual cap for the saving throw penalty appears to be -7.[verify]

Mind Sanctuary: Haste Mind Sanctuary: Haste

  • This condition is immediately removed from a creature when it spends an action point and is only reapplied on the creature's following turn, effectively causing this condition to only grant the benefit of an additional action point each turn.
  • The in-game description says it doubles movement speed, but it actually increases it by 9 m (30 ft).
  • The in-game description says that Lethargic Lethargic is applied when the condition ends, however this is not the case.

Mindbroken Mindbroken

  • Slow: Casting Slow: Casting is non-functional and spells cast by slowed creatures will never be delayed.
  • Slow: Actions Slow: Actions does not prevent a creature from making multiple attacks unless they somehow become Slowed between attacks on their own turn.

Momentum Momentum

  • Due to miscoded StatusHasStatusGroup() checks, no conditions besides Slowed Slowed prematurely removes Momentum.

Moonmother's Embrace Moonmother's Embrace

Necrotic Aura Necrotic Aura

  • If Gale is revived from a Downed Downed state (not Dead) by Revivify Revivify,  Scroll of Revivify, or  Scroll of True Resurrection he receives Necrotic Aura at the start of his next turn in combat (or after 6 seconds when out of combat) despite being alive due to a possibly miscoded script. See GLO_Origin_Gale_Death https://bg3.norbyte.dev/search?q=name:GLO_Origin_Gale_Death+type:script

Noxious Fumes Noxious Fumes

  • PoisonPoison damage dealt to nearby creatures increases with the damage bonuses of the affected creature rather than the damage bonuses of the character who initially applied Noxious Fumes.

Paranoid Dreams Paranoid Dreams

Perilous Stakes Perilous Stakes

  • Can be stacked multiple times upon the same character, providing multiple occurrences of healing without any additional negative effect.

Perilous Stakes Perilous Stakes

  • This can be cast multiple times on the same target to apply multiple instances of the condition at once. The critical hit threshold reduction, bonus damage, and healing effect from each application all stack with each other. The damage vulnerability does not stack this way.

Phantasmal Force Phantasmal Force

Phantasmal Killer Phantasmal Killer

Pinched Pinched

  • This condition's description incorrectly states that 2PiercingPiercing is dealt each turn, but 1d4PiercingPiercing is correctly dealt.

Prophecy: Delivering Alms Prophecy: Delivering Alms

  • This prophecy cannot be completed because it references a passive that does not exist in the game code.

Prophecy: Well-Read Prophecy: Well-Read

  • This prophecy can only be fulfilled for learning a spell from scroll when done via inventory. Spells learnt in 'Learn More Spells' window do not work.

Protection from Evil and Good Protection from Evil and Good

  • The description incorrectly states it grants immunity to Charmed Charmed conditions but this is not true.
  • The description also incorrectly states that immunity to Frightened and Possessed is only against the listed creature types; in reality, it is against any source, not just the listed creature types.

Qua'nith: Alert Active Qua'nith: Alert Active

  • This condition is removed on the next action/ability a character takes that targets an entity, regardless if that action/ability has an attack roll.

Rage Rage

  • Although the tooltip for this particular condition states Prerequisite Icon.pngRage ends early if the barbarian hasn't attacked an enemy or taken damage since their last turn, it does not.

Rended Flesh Rended Flesh

  • The tooltip erroneously claims that it blocks temporary hit points, however it does not block any specific source of temporary hit points currently used in-game.

Reverberation Reverberation

  • Despite the description, no such mechanics exist to prevent Thunder-immune creatures from receiving Reverberation.
  • In real-time mode, none of the effects described for applying 5 or more turns occur but the duration is still capped at 5 turns.
  • If the saving throw against Prone Prone triggers a reaction that requires player confirmation, the Prone condition will not be applied. This occurs regardless of the saving throw's outcome or whether the player chooses to use the reaction, and the roll itself will not appear in the Combat Log. Furthermore, if the saving throw is triggered by multiple sources of Reverberation simultaneously, the game may issue multiple consecutive reaction prompts. When this happens, the text normally identifying the involved entities will be missing from the prompts.

Rumbling with Kereska's Thunder Rumbling with Kereska's Thunder

  • Additional damage is added solely based on the DamageType flag of the action used. It does not actually check that the action was a spell.

Ruptured Ruptured

Sanctuary Sanctuary

  • Creatures affected by Sanctuary can still be targeted with Blight Blight, Chain Lightning Chain Lightning, and Thorn Whip Thorn Whip, due to these spells lacking the IsHarmful spell flag. For the same reason, a large number of NPC actions (for example, Sharp Rock Sharp Rock) can target creatures that are affected by Sanctuary.
  • Neutral NPCs (yellow outlined) with Sanctuary can be targeted with attacks. This will still make them hostile, after which they are protected.

Shadow Infusion Shadow Infusion

  • The description of this condition incorrectly states it provides the Right Behind You Right Behind You reaction. It does not, and instead provides the Splinter Shadow Splinter Shadow reaction.

Shadow Possession Shadow Possession

  • When revived, this condition should force the affected character to spend each turn attacking the nearest creature (friend or foe). However, it is instantly removed from the wearer upon leaving the Downed Downed state.

Sharran Retribution Sharran Retribution

Shell of Resistance Shell of Resistance

  • Gortash becomes immune to FireFire damage as well, despite not being mentioned in the tooltip. This may be related to WYR_GORTASH_SHIELD_BUFF_TACTICIAN https://bg3.norbyte.dev/search?q=WYR_GORTASH_SHIELD_BUFF_TACTICIAN which is a condition that exists in the game files but is never applied and seems to have an incomplete definition. It was presumably meant to grant Gortash immunity to Thunder and Fire on Tactician and Honour difficulties only; instead, both immunities are granted by the regular version, which is applied across all difficulty modes.

Singing Sword: Shriek Singing Sword: Shriek

  • The in-game tooltip specifies that Shriek applies the penalty to mental Saving Throw Saving Throws but it actually applies to all saving throws and attack rolls.

Singing Sword: Shrieking Singing Sword: Shrieking

  • The in-game tooltip specifies that Shriek applies the penalty to mental Saving Throw Saving Throws but it actually applies to all saving throws and attack rolls.
  • The 1d4ThunderThunder damage does not trigger items or effects which require thunder damage, such as  Hat of Storm Scion's Power,  Gloves of Belligerent Skies, or Prophecy: Thunderous Applause regardless of whether the character triggering the damage has the item/effect or is the character activating Phalar Aluve: Shriek Phalar Aluve: Shriek. This is because the thunder damage dealt to the enemy is from a passive effect placed on the enemy, rather than originating from the attacker which is necessary to trigger any such items or effect.
    • This effect is changed in Honour difficulty, and functions as expected.

Singing Sword: Singing Singing Sword: Singing

Singing Sword: Song Singing Sword: Song

  • The tooltip specifies mental Attack Roll Attack Rolls and Saving Throw Saving Throws, but the bonus actually applies to all of them, not just mental ones.

Slowed Slowed

  • Slow: Casting Slow: Casting is non-functional and spells cast by slowed creatures will never be delayed.
  • Slow: Actions Slow: Actions does not prevent a creature from making multiple attacks unless they somehow become Slowed between attacks on their own turn.

Soul Branding Soul Branding

  • The in-game tooltip states the effect provides a movement speed bonus of 1.5 m (5 ft), but it is actually 5 m (17 ft).
  • When applied to a weapon with the Thrown property, the effect is not lost on hitting an enemy with a Throw Throw attack, and remains for the full duration. The damage is still added.

Soul Pillar Proximity Soul Pillar Proximity

  • The in-game description of this effect says that the bonus is +3 to Dexterity checks and saving throws, but it is actually a +3 bonus to overall Dexterity score. This has a smaller impact on Dexterity checks and saving throws, but also increases AC.

Spectral Aspect Spectral Aspect

  • The condition is flagged with the SG_Ignore_AOO Status group, which prevents Balthazar from triggering Opportunity Attacks Opportunity Attacks. This functionality is not stated in the description of the condition.

Stricken With Slimy Doom Stricken With Slimy Doom

  • A creature will not be stunned if it has another passive feature which also triggers on taking damage (more precisely, any passive with an OnDamaged StatsFunctorContext). An example is Gortash Gortash with Invoke the Black Hand Invoke the Black Hand.
