Spectator

Spectators are a non-playable Aberration race in Baldur's Gate 3. They have four eyestalks that can each cast debilitating rays. The Spectator's multiple eyestalks allow it to cast up to two rays per turn.

About[edit section | visual editor]

Spectators are a lesser type of Beholder. They are floating creatures with a single huge eye and four eyestalks from which they can cast damaging or debilitating ray attacks. They come in two varieties, a normal version and a stronger variant with increased stats and HP.

As many as five spectators can be encountered throughout the game: One stalks near the petrified drow in the Underdark, one is trapped inside the  Iron Flask, two guard Hope's Hope's prison in the House of Hope, and one is in the courtyard of the High Hall.

In Patch #7, the Spectator gained a Legendary Action. When struck, the Spectator accumulates stacks of Paranoid Dreams Paranoid Dreams. When it reaches 5 stacks, it uses its reaction to cast Ocular Nightmare Ocular Nightmare. The Legendary Action can be avoided by removing stacks of Paranoid Dreams, either by waiting for it to cast a ray attack or by intentionally moving close to the Spectator to trigger Panicked Sentinel Panicked Sentinel. Any ray attack reduces Paranoid Dreams counter by 1.

After accumulating five Paranoid Dreams Paranoid Dreams, the Spectator will spend a Legendary Action to cast Ocular Nightmare Ocular Nightmare.
