Raylen Jannath

Lord Raylen Jannath is a Lord of Baldur's Gate who is present at  Enver Gortash's ordination as the Archduke of the city.

Involvement

Before the ceremony he sits among other patriars on the pews in central nave of the Audience Hall.

After the ceremony ends, Lord Raylen moves to the southern nave of the Audience Hall and stands at the middle table with refreshments. He discusses with  Lord Myer Ravenshade the advantages of the Steel Watch as a new level of the city defences, but is actually only concerned with the security of the trade routs, possibly blocked by the Absolutists. If spoken with, he calls  Gortash a worthy leader and mentions that the city has long needed a "shake-up".

If the party confront Gortash, they can later find Lord Raylen along with all other invited guests and their retinue – slaughtered in the Audience hall.

According to the research of the Black Hand of Loyalty, Lord Raylen Jannath is one of the nobles who may easily fall in line with the cult via bribery, blackmail, or direct threats.

  Will you take up arms if the walls are breached?

• Myer Ravenshade

  Of course. It is the duty of a patriar to defend the citizens of Baldur's Gate with his life if need be.

• Myer Ravenshade

  Although it's been some years since I last donned my armour. It may need some minor adjustments around the waist.

• Raylen Jannath

  Once he's dealt with the cult, Gortash should turn the Steel Watch on the Guild.

• Myer Ravenshade

  That would be rash. The Guild are part of the fabric of the city - in their way, they keep order as well as the Fist do.

• Raylen Jannath

  Gortash made out the Steel Watch were invincible - the pinnacle of Baldurian genius and enterprise. (If the Steel Watch Foundry is destroyed)

• Myer Ravenshade

  I'm sure they'll be operational again soon enough.

• Myer Ravenshade

  I wish I had your confidence.

• Raylen Jannath

  I trust Lord Gortash to protect the city, but unless he can secure the trade routes, the Absolute's armies can suffocate us.

• Myer Ravenshade

  As long as we're not overrun with refugees, there are supplies enough to survive a long siege. It's only your purse that will suffer.

• Raylen Jannath

  My purse is my most sensitive organ.

• Raylen Jannath

  My cousin tells me the Lords of Waterdeep have requested a shipment of Steel Watchers to help defend against the Absolute.

• Myer Ravenshade

  I trust the request was denied? We need to look to our own defences until the danger has passed.
