Dolly Dolly Dolly or Dolly Thrice is a pixie trapped in the Moonlantern carried by Kar'nissKar'niss, a drider travelling the Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act Two.
Oh please, oh golly, me-oh-my, you must release me or I'll die!

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act Two[edit | edit source]

After travelling to the Shadow-Cursed Lands, the party can meet Kar'nissKar'niss, who traverses the Shadow CurseShadow Curse with the assistance of a Moonlantern. If Kar'niss is defeated, the party can collect and investigate the Moonlantern.

Inspecting the MoonlanternInspecting the Moonlantern reveals the presence of Dolly and grants the inspiration Trust and a Little Pixie DustTrust and a Little Pixie Dust inspiration to party members with the Guild ArtisanGuild Artisan background. Dolly pleas with the inspecting party member to free her, and they can either release her gently, release her by smashing the lantern, torture her, or ignore her:

  • I need protection from this curse. If I release you, will you help me travel through the shadows?
  • What's this mechanism at the base of the lantern?
    • Turn the mechanism.
  • [ROGUE] Quickly unlock the lantern and release the pixie.
  • Release the pixie.
  • Smash the lantern on the ground.
  • Ignore the pixie; keep the lantern.

Refusing to release Dolly from the lantern results in her dropping the rhyming speech affectation and instead viciously cursing the party out. While the lantern is equipped from then on, she occasionally pipes up with further insults and demands to be released.

Turning the mechanism causes Dolly to scream out in pain, and she begs the party to stop. Turning the mechanism a second time kills her, although the lantern still functions normally. If the party inspect the lantern a second time, they see a "tangle of blood, bones, and two broken wings".

Releasing her by either means destroys the lantern, and Dolly asks the party what she owes them:

  • [DARK URGE] A beautiful thing it would be, to end a life in this first moment of freedom.
  • [DARK URGE] Refuse to crush her. Ask her for help against the shadow curse.
  • I need to get through this shadow curse. Can you help? (if not Dark Urge)
  • What's on offer?
  • Nothing - my help doesn't come with strings attached.
  • [OATH OF DEVOTION] Freeing you was the right thing to do - you owe me no debt.
  • [OATH OF THE ANCIENTS] I know the Feyfolk are used to debts - but you owe me nothing. Be free.
  • [OATH OF VENGEANCE] Nothing - I know I'd want a shot at revenge if I was trapped. Only fair to free you.
  • [OATHBREAKER] Everyone deserves their freedom - you owe me nothing.
  • [OATH OF THE CROWN] Prisons are for criminals; you were innocent. You owe me nothing.

If The Dark Urge is chosen as Origin, then they want to kill the pixie by crushing her between their fingers. Doing this yields no benefits, other than the inspiration Fly-SwatterFly-Swatter and an Oathbreaking Action for Paladins, forcing the party to find another Moonlantern if they want to traverse the stronger areas of the Shadow Curse.

Otherwise, regardless of the option chosen, Dolly rewards the party with the Filigreed Feywild Bell. This bell grants the entire party the condition Pixie BlessingPixie Blessing, which gives full immunity from the Shadow Curse without the need to use a Moonlantern. Releasing her by smashing the lantern causes her to curse the interacting party member with A Clown in TownA Clown in Town, which gives them a clown's facepaint.

If Kar'niss survives his journey to Moonrise Towers with the Moonlantern, Dolly dies and cannot be freed from it.

Act Three[edit | edit source]

If the party free her during Act Two, then JelliwigJelliwig, the "Printing Press" of the quest Stop the PressesStop the Presses recognises the party and may allow them to change the printing to something more favourable.

If rescued, Dolly Thrice can be spoken with at any time by using the Filigreed Feywild Bell during Acts Two and Three.

Filigreed Feywild Bell[edit | edit source]

When used, Dolly appears and asks the party a riddle in prose. Depending on the answer, Dolly either grants Pixie BlessingPixie Blessing or plays a prank on the speaking party member by polymorphing them into an animal:

  • Dolly Dolly Dolly
You look like you want to say the magic words. Like they're right on the tip of your lips...
    • Dolly Dolly Dolly, Dolly; won't you save me from my folly? (Grants Pixie BlessingPixie Blessing)
    • I'm afraid I don't know the magic words. Mind sharing them? (Inflicts Toad ModeToad Mode)
    • Oh, my lovely Dolly thrice who is so very sweet and nice - won't you assist your humble friend so I won't meet my cursèd end? (Grants Pixie BlessingPixie Blessing)
    • We're living in a magical theatre show puppeteered by a madman. (Inflicts Big PigBig Pig)
    • Snurl. (Inflicts Cattle PrattleCattle Prattle)

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • If the Moonlantern is not automatically inspected after picking it up, equipping it allows the party member to use the action Inspect MoonlanternInspect Moonlantern to talk to Dolly. If the action is not in the quick action bar, it can be found in the Spellbook menu under "Common".
  • Dolly's Pixie Blessing disappears if the party move between Act areas (for example if they travel back to the Wilderness (Act One) from the Shadow-Cursed Lands (Act Two)). Because of this, if the blessing is applied during Act Three, there is no way to remove it, because the party cannot leave Act Three.[verify]
  • Dolly is one of the few characters who are able to break the "fourth wall" and acknowledge that she is part of a video game. When using the Filigreed Feywild Bell, the talking party member has the option to tell her that the "magic words" are "We're living in a magical theatre show puppeteered by a madman". Dolly replies that they are not supposed to know that, and polymorphs them into a pig for two turns as punishment.
