Whereas Ulthred is initially skeptical and doubtful of the party, Essius attempts to talk him down and be open to the party's help. As Ulthred displays some nervousness at being in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, Essius tells him he has seen worse alleyways in Baldur's Gate.[3]

If Marcus Marcus is exposed as a True Soul, Essius is Surprised Surprised and joins the fight against his summoned Crawling Claw Crawling Claws.

  • Ulthred
I wish we'd gear up and head out. All this standing around is making me antsy.
  • Essius
Got to have a plan first. Got to trust Jaheira to come up with one.
  • Ulthred
    I don't.
  • Essius
    I do.
  • Ulthred
That's why we're still standing around.
[8]
  • Essius
Duke Ravengard's still alive, you reckon?
  • Ulthred
He better be, or I'm a dead man walking.
  • Essius
    Aren't we all?
  • Ulthred
Not as long as we can put up a fight, we're not.
  • Essius
    Good man.
[8]
  • Ulthred
This place gives me the creeps.
  • Essius
Seen alleyways in Baldur's Gate that are plenty worse in their way.
  • Ulthred
    Yeah?
  • Essius
Heapside narrows at night time? Two steps in and you're likely to become some dagger's new sheath.
  • Ulthred
Ain't my neck of the woods.
  • Essius
    Count your lucky stars.

Notes and references[edit section | visual editor]

  1. ↑ Essius does not have the same stat block as Antony, Lymn, or Naysa, nor does he share the ranger class with them. Instead, Essius seems to be have a non-descript DEX-based melee archetype.
  2. ↑ According to devnotes, Essius is a rather long-lived gnome and experienced Harper. Devnotes:
Default dialogue for the confident and experienced harper when standing guard at the fountain.
Two guards standing by a fountain, one a long-lived gnome Harper and one a rough-and-ready Flaming Fist human. The Fist is on edge and none too friendly, the Harper is calmer and more forthcoming.
  3. ↑ Dialogue with Ulthred:
"This place gives me the creeps." - Ulthred
"Seen alleyways in Baldur's Gate that are plenty worse in their way." - Essius
    "Yeah?"
"Heapside narrows at night time? Two steps in and you're likely to become some dagger's new sheath."
"Ain't my neck of the woods."
    "Count your lucky stars."
  4. ↑ If Essius is killed at any point before the Assault on Moonrise TowersAssault on Moonrise Towers, a replacement Harper (either Olys, Grenywald, Lanni, or Lilineth) will take Essius' place.
  5. ↑ Essius is the only surviving Assault on Moonrise TowersAssault on Moonrise Towers, non-failsafe Harper who is not able to be called in during Confront the Elder BrainConfront the Elder Brain as part of the Gather Your Allies Gather Your Allies variant Silver Harp Squadron Silver Harp Squadron, even if all the other remaining Harpers are dead.
  6. ↑ As of Patch 6 and after, despite having Extra Attack, Essius is not able to attack twice during his turns.
  7. ↑ Unlike the other Harpers during the Assault on Moonrise, Essius does not naturally spawn with a  Longbow, and is instead given one at the start of the battle.
