Soldier is a character background with skills and inspirations themed around war and masterful combat. Lae'zel, Jaheira, and the hireling Varanna Sunblossom have this background.

Background features[edit section | visual editor]

Background goals[edit section | visual editor]

Performing certain actions that align with this background rewards Inspiration. These goals can be accomplished by any member of the active party, and Inspiration points are pooled, up to a maximum of 4. Completing an inspiration event also grants experience to characters with this background. While not necessarily all-inclusive, listed below are known events which grant inspiration points.

The inspirational events are grouped according to the place where they are awarded. If an event can be earned in more than one location depending on the party's playthrough choices, it is placed in the "Multiple Locations" (general or belonging to the specific Act of the game).

Bugs[edit section | visual editor]

  • War is No Place for a Child: Lie to Arabella about her parents' fate. The trigger for this inspiration event is a specific unreachable scene with Withers and Arabella, and thus, the inspiration points cannot be earned in the current game version (4.1.17398727).

Cut Background Goals[edit section | visual editor]

  • Start Them Young: Inspire the tiefling children to train harder. The tiefling children are present, but the inspiration event is not implemented anymore and therefore does not trigger. However, Wyll (if played as Origin) can still tell them three different tales of his adventures to cheer them up.
  • Stalwart Heart: Persuade Rolan to stay and protect the grove. Rolan can be convinced to stay and protect the grove, but the inspiration event is not implemented anymore and therefore does not trigger.
  • Lolth's Last Laugh: Defeat Viconia and her Sharran cohorts. Knives in the DarkKnives in the Dark inspiration seems to be implemented instead.

Notes and References[edit section | visual editor]

  1. ↑ Though there exist strategies and exploits which allow to fight Kith'rak Voss after the encounter cutscene, engaging him is not necessary to obtain the inspiration, more so defeating him.
  2. ↑ Edenosa still comes to the point where the Netherbrain normally speaks through her, but the dialogue with her remains as if there was no fight at all.
