Urchin is a character background with skills and inspirations themed around street smarts. The hireling Maddala Deadeye has this background.

Background goals[edit section | visual editor]

Performing certain actions that align with this background rewards Inspiration. These goals can be accomplished by any member of the active party, and Inspiration points are pooled, up to a maximum of 4. Completing an inspiration event also grants experience to characters with this background. While not necessarily all-inclusive, listed below are known events which grant inspiration points.

Emerald Grove 20 Artful Dodger Earn Mattis' respect by taking his ring.
20 Family Comes First Encourage Meli to tell the truth about the amulet.
20 Idolatry Help Mol steal the Idol of Silvanus.
20 Not On My Watch Save Arabella from Kagha and her serpent.
  • This is earned as soon as Arabella safely runs away.
  • Shared with Snake WhispererSnake Whisperer inspiration.
20 Paying It Forward Give Mol money to found a guild in Baldur's Gate.
  • Saving or helping tiefling childen in the Grove eventually leads to this option. The party must find out about the kids' thievery spree (either witness Meli stealing from Barth or let themselves be robbed by Mattis and Silfy)[1], then find a way into the Tiefling Hideout and speak with Mol.
  • Confronting any member of Mol's gang, or allowing Arabella and / or Mirkon to die locks the party out of obtaining this inspiration[verify], as Mol turns hostile to them and cannot be convinced otherwise.
20 Protect Your Own Protect the child who took the locket from Barth.
25 Slaying the Piper Rescue Mirkon from the harpies.
Goblin Camp 25 Born Innocent Save the owlbear cub from the goblins.
25 What Price Dignity? Steal the toe ring from Crusher without getting caught.
  • This must be done through the skill check while kissing Crusher's feet; this ring cannot be obtained through normal pickpocketing.
  • Shared with Anything for a ProfitAnything for a Profit inspiration.
  • Mutually exclusive with Give Them a ShowGive Them a Show inspiration.

Risen Road 30 Hero for Hire Get some coin out of the Zhentarim survivors.

  • This inspiration is awarded when you leave, not when you enter.

  • The inspiration is given after talking to both of them, regardless of the order.

Notes[edit section | visual editor]

  • Artful DodgerArtful Dodger can be obtained in two other ways but doing so prevents Made You LookMade You Look:
    • When Mattis gives the interacting party member the ring and asks for it back; the player character can choose "Thanks for the free ring." and then "I don't have to do anything. Goodbye." After speaking with Mattis again and apologizing, the interacting party member must give the ring back.
    • The ring can be pickpocketed from Mattis before the first interaction, and then returned to him.
