Noble is a character background. Minthara and the hireling Kerz have this background.

Background goals[edit section | visual editor]

Performing certain actions that align with this background rewards Inspiration. These goals can be accomplished by any member of the active party, and Inspiration points are pooled, up to a maximum of 4. Completing an inspiration event also grants experience to characters with this background. While not necessarily all-inclusive, listed below are known events which grant inspiration points.

  • Granted only at the first time reaching the threshold of 2000 gold.
  • Available to earn through having a Hireling in the party.
30 Eldritch Authority Become a True Soul.
  • Use illithid dialogue options in conversations 7 times.
  • The counter of uses is separate for each party member. Granted once any single party member reaches the 7th use.
  • The game can bug and give the "True Soul" tag earlier than intended.
20 Fine By Me Use your wealth to bribe a guard.
  • When talking to any guard who questions you about a transgression (f.e., a theft), offer them money to hush up the thing.
25 Penchant for Diplomacy Reach a High level of approval with a companion.
  • Cannot be granted to Hirelings, thus is only obtainable for a Custom player character.
20 Soul for Sale Acquire a Soul Coin for your personal collection.
Act One
Multiple locations 25 Entitled Earn a title from your deeds.

This can be awarded by doing the following:

20 Noblesse Oblige Dismiss a companion for interrupting a conversation or Ignore the pleas or requests of a companion in dialogue.
  • Despite the description, can be earned in any of two dialogues which involve Lae'zel only:
  • Cannot be granted to Hirelings, thus is only obtainable for a Custom player character.
Blighted Village 25 Bodyguards for Hire Recruit the ogres to protect you.
Campsite 30 Blueblood Solidarity Learn Wyll's family history.
20 Lest Ye Be Judged Learn Astarion's history as a magistrate.
  • Cannot be granted to Hirelings. Thus, is only obtainable for a Custom player character.
Shattered Sanctum 25 A Man of Many Talents Expand your retinue by bringing Volo to camp.
  • Granted immediately on inviting Volo to the camp, after the party freed him from the cage.
Underdark 30 Know Your Place Leverage your role in the drow matriarchy to force Dhourn to abandon his quest.
  • Dhourn must survive the fight with the Spectator.
  • The correspondent dialogue option is available to Drow female characters only. All others must be disguised as such.
Waukeen's Rest 30 Protector of the Duke Rescue Counsellor Florrick from the burning inn.
  • Granted after speaking to Counsellor Florrick.
  • If the party changes location (f.e., descends to the Zhentarim Basement) or fast travels after entering the Waukeen's Rest court for the first time, Florrick dies, and the inspiration cannot be obtained anymore.
Act Two
Campsite 60 Nobleborn as Below, so Above Recruit Minthara.
60 Patrician of the Grove Recruit Halsin.
Gauntlet of Shar 60 Meat Shield Obtain Balthazar's bell and summon his flesh golem.
  • The golem must be summoned to protect the party. If summoned in the fight against Balthazar himself, it allies with the necromancer, and the inspiration is not gained.
75 Recognised by Shadows Pass all of Shar's trials.
  • Granted after successfully reaching the goal of the third trial. The order of taking them is irrelevant.
Last Light Inn 60 Favour for a Favour Wake Art for Counsellor Florrick and the Flaming Fist.
50 Noble Feline Speak with the lordly cat at Last Light.
  • Only obtainable the first time a character speaks with His Majesty, and only if using Speak with Animals.
Moonrise Towers 50 A Velvet Glove Spare the goblins.
50 An Iron Fist Execute the goblins.
50 Can't Bribe 'Em All Bribe Moonrise's warden.
  • Offer the lowest available sum, because she always takes money and does nothing.
75 Ketheric's Loss Learn Ketheric's past.
  • Read the letter which is locked in the Opulent Chest near the bed in his room.
  • If exploring the room before witnessing Ketheric's trial, it is not yet guarded by Squire.
60 Top of the Ladder Meet Ketheric at the top of Moonrise.
  • Granted only if meeting Ketheric for an audience with the Absolute.[verify]
Reithwin Town 50 Taxes? Never Heard of 'Em Don't give any gold to the toll collector.
  • This includes single coins which can be tossed to her throughout the dialogue to open the options to convince her to 'retire'. Thus, can actually be earned only through fighting her.
Shadow-Cursed Lands 50 Odd Entourage Complete the drider escort to Moonrise.
Act Three
Multiple locations 170 An Apocalyptic Deal Convince someone to aid you during the endgame or by signing the contract with Raphael
Lower City 220 Defamed No More Sabotage the printing press.
  • Change the article block in the printing press maintained by Jelliwig.
170 The Means of Coercion Find the true reason the Gondians are cooperating with Gortash.
135 Updating Your Wardrobe Obtain a sumptuous new garment from Figaro's.
  • Granted only upon trading with Figaro Pennygood himself; trading with Phlanders Hort if Figaro died does not count.
  • Buying anything from Figaro grants the inspiration, not necessarily a clothing item.
170 Wine Connoisseur Warn Mrs Highberry of the poisoned wine.
  • When talking to Cora and Metzli at the wine festival, must succeed a passive DC 18 Medicine check, then specifically choose a warning dialogue line.[2]
  • Barbarians roll a passive DC 10 Perception instead, which makes obtaining the inspiration easier.
Murder Tribunal 220 Titles for the Collection Become the Unholy Assassin of Bhaal.
Rivington 125 Alms for the Unfortunate Donate something to the refugees.
  • Must give Manip Nestor food, items or gold through the barter menu, any amount.
  • Can be earned only before Nestor sees the explosive toys.
135 Exerting Judgement End the squabbling between the merchant and the squatters.
  • This one is granted regardless of the choice the party actually makes.
  • If the party sides with the squatters, the inspiration is granted upon talking with Ben afterwards.
  • If letting the Rivington Rats deal with the squatters, the inspiration is not given.
135 Press Release Complete Lens' interview.
  • Only obtainable if Orin is impersonating Lens.[3]
135 The Right Oil for Any Situation Gain access to the circus.
  • This is granted upon using any method to convince the gatekeeper Klaus.
  • Cannot be gained if any party member has already entered the circus' grounds via alternative ways (e.g., from the Open Hand Temple or through the fence breach).
170 Interrupted Communications Discover where the missing letters went.
  • The letters are on the Open Hand Temple roof. Must convince Tara to leave, and pick up the letters.
  • Having Gale in the party helps to bypass any checks on Tara.
170 Newfound Subject Feed a brain to the freshly turned mindflayer.
  • Must specifically bring it a corpse to feed on. Suggesting it to find food by itself does not count.
  • Mutually exclusive with Kill 'Em While They're Young⁠Kill 'Em While They're Young.
170 Backing the Established Players Side with the Guild during the confrontation.
Undercity 170 Underbelly Diplomat Gain access to the Undercellar.
  • This is granted upon entering the Guildhall for the first time, regardless of the way and direction.
220 The Wealth of Morality Choose your allegiance between the Guild and the Zhentarim.
  • This is granted upon final confrontation in the Aid the Underduke quest starts, regardless of whether there was actual dialogue with a side to pick.
  • Killing Roah Moonglow or Boss Friol in the Abandoned Cistern automatically sides the party with the Guild, but the inspiration is still granted.
Wyrm's Rock Fortress 170 Multipass Use the urgent Ravengard missive to pass the Flaming Fist checkpoint.
170 Procedures be Damned Enter Wyrm's Rock without a pass.
