Countermeasure
Countermeasures are hostile Aberration creatures in Baldur's Gate 3 that may appear during the fight Atop the Netherbrain depending upon the party's choices during the Confront the Elder Brain quest.

About[edit section | visual editor]
Four Countermeasures are created by the Netherbrain if the party chose to trust The Emperor and allow him, a Full-Illithid player character, or Full-Illithid Karlach to consume Orpheus. They are designed to both mimic and counter the specific classes of characters in the active party. They only appear during the final battle Atop the Netherbrain.
Tactics[edit section | visual editor]
Countermeasures are intended to be effective against the classes they mimick. For example, the Spellplague has the Magic Resistance passive, Resistance to fire, cold, and lightning damage, and can cast Counterspell, making them more difficult for Wizards to deal with. It may be advisable to fight different countermeasures with members of the party who are not countered by them.
Countermeasure class variants[edit section | visual editor]
- Barbarian: Rage Queller
- Bard: The Snapping of Strings
- Cleric: Blasphemous Acolyte
- Druid: Unnatural Blot
- Fighter: Breaker of War
- Monk: Way of the Profane Ki
- Paladin: Oathless Wretch
- Ranger: The Darkening Hunt
- Rogue: Assassin's Folly
- Sorcerer: Metamage Persecutor
- Warlock: Pactsplitter
- Wizard: Spellplague
Notes[edit section | visual editor]
- If a character is multi-classed then their countermeasure is randomly selected from among their classes.
- Countermeasures have 4 character models, each of which is always used during the final battle.
- Most countermeasures arguably fail to live up to their name, particularly against experienced and well prepared players. Some do not have any abilities or powers that effecticely counter a character's class and are simply a variant of that class; e.g., Paladin countermeasure is just a (weak) Paladin, where a more effective 'countermeasure' would have been a Death Knight or something with Radiant Retort.
