Blurg
Blurg is a friendly hobgoblin trader. Alongside Omeluum, he is a member of the Society of Brilliance studying the flora and fauna of the Underdark.
Involvement[edit section | visual editor]
Act One[edit section | visual editor]
Blurg can be first met in the Ebonlake Grotto at X: 111 Y: -89. If the party tell him about the tadpole, he contacts Omeluum and the pair attempt to learn more information about it. He also shares details about the Society of Brilliance along with his scholarly insights on the Myconid colony and the Underdark.
Act Three[edit section | visual editor]
Blurg moves to the Society of Brilliance Lodge in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. If the party did not meet Omeluum during Act One, Blurg mentions his associate chose to remain in the Underdark.
Otherwise, the two have traveled together to tell the Society of Brilliance about their findings. If Blurg is spoken to after both travelled together, Blurg expresses his worry that Omeluum has been gone for too long, and asks the party to find it; this starts the quest Retrieve Omeluum.

Combat[edit section | visual editor]
Blurg does not fight back and, along with Omeluum, teleports away on his turn if attacked in the Underdark. However, if a party member is caught stealing from him, Blurg might attack.[verify] If the party member then manages to run back to the campsite, Blurg and Omeluum disappear.
Attacks and actions[edit section | visual editor]
Idle banter[edit section | visual editor]
Blurg and Omeluum occasionally chat while at Ebonlake Grotto in Act One.
- Blurg
- How is your more... personal research progressing?
- Omeluum
- Not well. The nutrition my species receives from other minds is difficult to emulate.
- Blurg
- Worry not, friend. You'll find the key soon enough.
- Blurg
- Have you spoken with Skriss lately?
- Omeluum
- Yes. She is cataloguing kuo-toan fertility rituals.
- Blurg
- Oh? Perhaps after I finish my research here, I'll join her...
- Omeluum
- Are you sure it was an illithid larva, Blurg?
- Blurg
- I'm not sure what reason there would be to lie.
- Omeluum
- True. If only I could see into their mind...
- Omeluum
- I have never seen anything like it, Blurg. Is my species evolving?
- Blurg
- Perhaps. But at such an accelerated rate?
- Omeluum
- Hm. It simply shouldn't be possible.
Blurg and Omeluum catch up with each other at the Lodge in Act Three in case Omeluum is saved.
- Blurg
- So your escape from the Iron Throne was a narrow one?
- Omeluum
- Indeed! I find I now have an irrational fear of deep water.
- Blurg
- How do you pass through the city streets without exciting opprobrium?
- Omeluum
- I adopt the illusory appearance of someone else. You, for example.

Notes[edit section | visual editor]
- Blurg appears briefly in the Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons Module "Out of the Abyss." While still a member of the Society of Brilliance, he was originally an Orog, an uncommon subrace of Orc, rather than a Hobgoblin. Some of the dialogue related to him even reflects his original race - implying the hobgoblin model was originally a placeholder, but was eventually used for the full release. It is unknown as to why the Hobgoblin race was kept for Blurg.
- Blurg teleports away after repeated pickpocket attempts.
