Torturer Spike is a goblin and follower of the Absolute. He and Lookout Grush Lookout Grush are torturing Liam Liam next to the Bloodied Shrine within the Shattered Sanctum of the Goblin Camp.

Act One[edit section | visual editor]

When approached, a cutscene plays out where Spike is torturing Liam, and he asks the interacting party member if they want to join him. They can take over the interrogation, force Spike to leave using their Illithid tadpole, or lie to him telling him they have been relieved.

If the party member tortures Liam to reveal the Emerald Grove's location, Spike then heads to Minthara Minthara and informs her, after which she prepares the assault. After informing Minthara, he moves to where Abdirak Abdirak is and loiters.

Torturing Liam grants the inspiration Grabbing the Poker with Both Hands⁠Grabbing the Poker with Both Hands for a character with the Haunted One Haunted One background.[1]

Freeing Liam grants the inspiration Fate Worse Than Death⁠Fate Worse Than Death for party members with the Folk Hero Folk Hero background.

If Spike witnesses a party member undergo the pain ritual, he claims that he needs to "see it again" and commands Grush to undergo the ritual as well. The party can watch as Grush takes hit after hit, eventually succumbing and getting Knocked Out Knocked Out.

  1. ↑ A drow, or a character disguised as one, cannot torture Liam, but convinces Spike to leave without an ability check. Doing so prevents the inspiration Grabbing the Poker with Both Hands⁠Grabbing the Poker with Both Hands from being granted to The Dark Urge The Dark Urge.
